How To Relocate A Toilet In A Bathroom Remodel

How To Relocate A Toilet In A Bathroom Remodel. Step-by-step: cutting the slab, re-routing the drain, setting a new flange, and finishing the floor for a relocated toilet.

Read the transcript

Let's look at this bathroom we're remodeling here. We are moving the toilet location. There's a lot of underground plumbing that's required when you relocate a toilet. As you can see here, we have the new rough in for the toilet location, but we have to vent this bathroom. The existing plumbing, the stack was in the block wall. So, what we've done is we've taken a saw and we've cut the block wall here and we've connected this vent into the old cast iron with this Fernco connection. So now we have the toilet relocated to a new spot and the bathroom is vented properly per code by connecting into the old stack that's existing as in the wall in this older home. Bathroom Renovation & Remodeling in Tampa, FL

A bathroom remodel lives or dies on the plumbing behind the wall. New tile, a floating vanity, and a frameless glass shower all look great on day one, but if the rough-in is wrong, the floor slope is off, or a tired old pipe gets left in place, every other trade gets blamed when something leaks six months later. Titan Plumbing and Electric approaches Tampa bathroom renovation plumbing-first: we get the water, waste, and venting right, then build the finishes on top of a system that will actually last.

We are a licensed plumber and electrician under one roof, which matters more in a bathroom than in any other room in the house. A modern bathroom needs supply lines, drains, vents, GFCI outlet protection, exhaust ventilation, and code-compliant lighting, and coordinating those trades is exactly where most remodels go sideways. Our partnership with the award-winning designers at The Bath & Kitchen Gallery means you get showroom-quality design backed by the in-house trades to actually execute it, from a single tub-to-shower conversion to a full gut renovation.

Complete Bathroom Renovation Services Across Tampa Bay

Whether you want a weekend refresh or a studs-out remodel, we handle the full scope: demolition, rough-in, fixture setting, tile, vanities, lighting, and final inspection. We start with an in-depth consultation, measure every rough-in dimension on site, and walk you through layout, flooring, fixtures, and finishes before a single tile is ordered. Homeowners from South Tampa to Carrollwood call us because we give clear timelines and transparent pricing instead of open-ended change orders.

Because we self-perform the plumbing and electrical, your project is not waiting on three different subcontractors to line up their calendars. That tighter control is what keeps a Tampa bathroom remodel on schedule and out of the 'almost done for two months' trap. Pairing the project with kitchen work, like a new garbage disposal or a relocated sink, is easy to fold in under the same permit while the crew is already on site.

  • Demolition and haul-away
  • Plumbing rough-in for tubs, showers, vanities, and toilets
  • Tile, flooring, and shower waterproofing
  • Vanities, cabinetry, and countertops
  • Lighting, exhaust, and electrical brought to code
  • Permitting, inspections, and final close-out

Tub-to-Shower Conversions and Walk-In Showers

More Tampa homeowners are trading a rarely used tub for a walk-in shower. Conversions open up floor space, improve accessibility for aging in place, and give a dated bathroom a clean, modern look. We re-slope the shower floor so it drains fast, set the pan and waterproofing as one system, and can add a curbless entry, linear drain, rainfall head, built-in niches, or a bench.

A bigger shower with body sprayers and a rainfall head pulls far more hot water than the old tub ever did, so a conversion is the right moment to confirm your water heater can keep up, or to step up to a tankless water heater for endless hot water. We size the real demand before you fall in love with a fixture that runs cold halfway through a shower.

Bathtub, Vanity, Faucet, and Toilet Installation

From deep soaking tubs to dual-sink vanities, we set fixtures level, sealed, and to manufacturer spec. We install water-saving faucets and high-efficiency toilets, move supply and drain lines for a new floor plan, and anchor everything solidly on tile or stone so nothing wobbles or weeps. If an existing toilet keeps running or clogging during the project, we fold that toilet repair into the same scope instead of leaving you a punch-list item.

Custom storage is part of the plan, not an afterthought. Floating vanities, dual sinks for a shared bath, and under-sink cabinetry all change where the drains and shutoffs land, which is exactly why the plumber should be at the table during design, not after the cabinets arrive.

The Plumbing Behind the Walls: Repiping and Drain Work

When the walls are already open, it is the cheapest moment you will ever get to fix the plumbing you cannot normally see. Many older Tampa homes still run on polybutylene or galvanized supply lines that are at the end of their life, and a bathroom remodel is the ideal time for a partial or whole-home repiping in PEX or copper. Replacing brittle drain arms and a corroded closet flange now prevents the classic 'new bathroom, old leak' callback a year later.

We also clear and re-pitch the drains so the new fixtures actually flow. If a branch line has a history of a slow drain, we handle the drain cleaning before it disappears behind finished tile, inspect the sewer line if the symptoms point downstream, and run leak detection on the finished system so you move back in with zero surprises. Get this hidden layer right and the bathroom stays quiet for decades.

Hard Water, Filtration, and Protecting Your New Finishes

Tampa Bay water runs 7 to 10 grains-per-gallon hard, and that mineral load is brutal on a freshly remodeled bathroom. Scale spots new glass shower doors, crusts chrome and matte-black fixtures, and shortens the life of the cartridges inside those nice new faucets. If you are investing in finishes you want to look good for years, a water softener is the single best way to protect them.

For homeowners who also want better-tasting, cleaner water at every tap, we can tie the remodel into a whole-home water filtration system on the main line so sediment and chlorine never reach the new fixtures in the first place. It is far easier to plan this in during a renovation than to retrofit it later.

Electrical Work Done Right in a Bathroom Remodel

Bathrooms carry the strictest electrical code in the house for an obvious reason: water and electricity share the room. Every receptacle near a sink, tub, or shower has to be GFCI outlet protected, and we bring all of it up to current code as part of the remodel. Because we are also licensed electricians, the wiring is never an afterthought handed off to an outside contractor.

While the walls are open we upgrade the indoor lighting with layered task, ambient, and vanity fixtures on dimmers, add a properly sized exhaust fan to fight Tampa humidity and mold, replace any aging smoke detector on the circuit, and can fold a whole-home electrical safety inspection into the same visit. One crew, one permit, one accountable team.

  • GFCI-protected outlets at every sink, tub, and shower
  • Layered task, ambient, and vanity lighting on dimmers
  • A properly sized exhaust fan to fight humidity and mold
  • An updated smoke detector on the circuit
  • Optional whole-home electrical safety inspection

Permits, Code, and Inspections in Tampa

Yes, a bathroom remodel that moves plumbing or electrical needs a permit in the City of Tampa and Hillsborough County, and that is a good thing. It means the work gets inspected and documented, which protects your home value and your insurance. As a licensed plumber and electrician, we pull the permits, schedule the inspections, and make sure the finished bathroom passes the first time.

Skipping permits is how homeowners end up with unpermitted work that surfaces during a future sale and tanks the deal. We keep the paperwork clean so your renovation stays an asset, not a liability.

are you thinking about replacing your standard tub most people have a steel enameled steel tub in their bathroom and they're wondering what an upgrade to that tub is all right so this tub is deeper this is 19 in deep with your standard steel tubs are only 15 in deep and if you look in this tub this overflow is the big difference so a steel tub the Overflow only allows you to have about 7 in of water in the tub and this over overlow is 14 in from the bottom you have twice as much water in this acrylic tub as you do in a steel tub for more information about Plumbing fixtures go to Titan plumbing electric.com and visit our social media sites [Music] [Applause]

okay today I want to go over what's involved with relocating a tub and a shower drain first we remove the concrete and then we relocate the under the slab Plumbing lines these are called waist lines and what we do is we put them underneath a test we fill them with water as you can see there's a little water in this one and there's a little test te right here and then the inspector will come in and he'll inspect these lines before we pour the concrete back to make sure that they're holding water so that they're not leaking and then once that inspection is passed we'll then cover back up this with dirt and pour concrete back in here for more information on Plumbing fixtures and remodeling for plumbing go to Titan Plumbing electric.com

We recently had our two water heaters replaced. Ariel did a great job making sure that they were installed and working. We have an older house and Ariel had to solve some connection issues to get everything installed and operational. Titan was professional and skilled and the hot water and water pressure are great now.

After this year's hurricanes, Titan is the only business I can rely on to show up when they say they will be there. Months after the storms blew through, we struggle to work with any company because the supply chain is so limited. I wish all companies were as honest as Titan. Their field technicians are not only highly skilled but very kind. Thank you Titan for your enduring commitment to integrity and great service!

Very impressed. Was in a bind on a Saturday. Victor came out within 90 minutes of my call and was very knowledgeable about the Flologic leak detection system we had that showed a possible leak. Within 15 minutes he advised the issue was with the valve for that system that got stuck in the off position. He fixed it, tested the system and we were good to go. I'm very thankful for getting in touch with the right company. Victor was very professional, friendly, and if we have any further plumbing or electric issues we will call Titan.

FAQ

Bathroom Renovation Plumbing. FAQs

Common questions homeowners ask before booking.

How much does a bathroom renovation cost in Tampa?
Most Tampa bathroom remodels land between a few thousand dollars for a fixture-and-tile refresh and the low five figures for a full gut with relocated plumbing. The biggest cost drivers are whether you move fixtures, the tile and fixture grade you choose, and any repiping or electrical upgrades the open walls reveal. We give a transparent, itemized quote after an on-site measure, so there are no open-ended change orders.
How long does a bathroom remodel take?
A straightforward update runs about one to two weeks; a full studs-out renovation with moved plumbing and custom tile typically runs three to five weeks. Because we self-perform both the plumbing and the electrical, we avoid the subcontractor scheduling gaps that stretch most remodels out for months.
Do I need a permit to remodel a bathroom in Tampa?
If the project moves or adds plumbing or electrical, yes. The City of Tampa and Hillsborough County require a permit and inspection. As a licensed plumber and electrician we pull the permits, schedule the inspections, and make sure the work passes the first time, which protects your home value and your insurance.
Can you convert my tub into a walk-in shower?
Absolutely. Tub-to-shower conversions are one of our most requested Tampa projects. We re-slope and waterproof the new shower floor, can add a curbless entry, linear drain, niches, and a rainfall head, and confirm your hot water supply can handle the larger shower before we start.
Do you handle both the plumbing and the electrical in a bathroom remodel?
Yes. Titan is licensed in both trades, so the GFCI protection, lighting, exhaust fan, and all the supply, drain, and venting work are handled by one accountable team under one permit, instead of being juggled between separate contractors.
