Electrical Panel Upgrades & Breaker Repair in Tampa, FL
Your electrical panel is the heart of your home's power system. Every circuit, outlet, and appliance runs through it, so when the panel is undersized, outdated, or failing, you feel it everywhere: tripping breakers, flickering lights, a warm panel cover, and a very real fire risk. Titan Plumbing & Electric has been handling breaker panel repair and replacement for Tampa homeowners since 1994, with flat-rate pricing and the permit pulled and inspected on every panel upgrade.
Tampa's older neighborhoods are full of homes still running on 100-amp service or on panel brands the industry has flagged as hazards. Add our heat, humidity, and famous lightning, and a tired panel rarely keeps up with a modern household. Whether you need a single breaker replaced or a full 200-amp service upgrade, our licensed electrician team will tell you honestly what the panel needs, what it does not, and quote the work before we start.
Signs Your Breaker Panel Needs Attention
Most homeowners never think about the panel until something goes wrong, but a struggling panel almost always warns you first. Catching these signs early is the difference between a planned repair and an after-hours emergency electrical call following a fire scare. If you notice any of the following, have the panel checked right away.
- Breakers that trip often, even when you are not running heavy appliances.
- Flickering or dimming lights when the AC, microwave, or dryer kicks on.
- A warm, buzzing, or scorched-smelling panel cover, which is never normal and never safe to ignore.
- Rust or corrosion inside the panel, which Florida humidity drives faster than most homeowners expect.
- Two wires jammed under one breaker (double-tapping), which is not code-compliant.
- Leaning on power strips and extension cords because the panel has run out of circuits.
Outdated and Recalled Panels We Replace
Some panels are dangerous by design, not just by age. If your home still has one of these brands, replacement is a safety decision rather than a luxury, and we see them constantly in Tampa homes built before the 1990s.
Federal Pacific Stab-Lok, Zinsco, and Challenger panels are widely documented for breakers that fail to trip during an overload, which is exactly the moment you need them to work. We replace them with modern Square D, Eaton, or Siemens equipment that is properly grounded, clearly labeled, and inspected. If you are not sure what brand you have, a quick whole-house safety inspection will identify it and flag anything else that is out of code.
Why Upgrade to a 200-Amp Service?
Homes built decades ago were wired for a fraction of the load we put on them today. A 100-amp panel that once ran a few lights and a single AC now has to feed central air, a tankless water heater, a hot tub, smart-home gear, and more. When the demand outgrows the supply, breakers trip and connections overheat.
Upgrading to 200-amp service gives your home the headroom to run everything safely and to add what comes next. It is the single best move if you are planning any of the projects below, and it pairs naturally with whole-house surge protection at the same visit.
- Adding an EV charger in the garage, which needs its own dedicated high-amp circuit.
- Installing a standby generator with an automatic transfer switch.
- Running new circuits for a kitchen remodel, addition, or pool wiring.
- Replacing aging aluminum wiring or correcting issues found during wiring repair.
- Qualifying for lower insurance premiums that some carriers offer on modern panels.
What a Panel Upgrade Involves
A full panel replacement is precise work, but it is rarely disruptive when it is planned right. Most upgrades are completed in a single day. Here is how our licensed electrician handles it from start to finish so there are no surprises.
Breaker Repair vs. Full Replacement
Not every panel problem means a full replacement. A single failed breaker, a loose lug, or one bad circuit is often a straightforward repair, and we will never push an upgrade you do not need. We earn more trust by fixing the small problem honestly than by overselling.
That said, if the panel is a recalled brand, is rusted, is out of breaker space, or cannot support your home's load, repairing it one breaker at a time only delays the inevitable. We lay out both options with flat-rate pricing so you can decide. If a hot panel, sparking outlet, or burning smell ever appears, treat it as an emergency electrical situation and call us right away.
Tampa Storms, Lightning, and Your Panel
Tampa sits in the lightning capital of the country, and all that storm activity is hard on a home's electrical system. A modern panel does more than keep the lights on. It gives surges somewhere to go and leaves room for the protective devices older panels simply cannot house.
Pairing a new panel with whole-house surge protection stops spikes from lightning or downed lines before they reach your electronics, HVAC, and appliances. We serve homeowners across the bay, from South Tampa to Carrollwood, and we know exactly how local storm season punishes a neglected panel. Getting ahead of it is far cheaper than replacing fried equipment after the fact.
One Tampa Team for Your Whole Electrical System
Because we are licensed in both trades, a single visit can cover everything that ties into your panel. Pairing a new panel with whole-house surge protection is the most common add-on, but the same crew can run an EV charger circuit, wire the transfer switch for a standby generator, replace failing aluminum wiring, add GFCI outlet protection, install hardwired smoke detectors, or handle recessed indoor lighting and outdoor lighting. For local businesses, our commercial electrical team upgrades panels and services at scale, and if you ever need an emergency electrician after hours, we are a phone call away.

We have a request from a customer to put in a tankless water heater and it's a very large electric tankless heater. They want to be able to fill a tub with the tankless heater. Most people don't know what's involved in upgrading your electrical to be able to put one of these bad boys in. We're going to step over and talk to Max from Titan and he's going to show us what's involved to upgrade your service and enough power to be able to run this large electric tankless heater. All right. And what we got here is right now we had to upgrade our meter outside from a 200 amp meter to a 400 amp meter to refeed these two panels. Before that we had a 200 amp here. Now we're adding a second panel over there to have those 400 amps. So this is our splice box where we refeed our feeder wire into the first panel and then we refeed the second panel on the bottom here and come in the bottom into this panel as well.
